Subnautica 2 save codes and Buddy System quality-of-life changes

Understand the Buddy System save-code input, repair-tool unlock change and scanner feedback without mixing them up with cross-branch transfers.

Coverage: Buddy System update, August 19, 2026

The quick answer

The Buddy System update lets you paste a save code into the Cloud Save Download input. It also lowers the Repair Tool unlock requirement to two scans and marks acid sources with green dots on the Scanner HUD.

What to do with a save code

Use the Cloud Save Download input for a code shared for that purpose. The Buddy System notes explicitly added pasting codes into that field. A code belongs in this workflow, not in a multiplayer invitation field.

If the code concerns a world on another development branch, stop and check compatibility first. Unknown Worlds separately states that import/export between Default and Experimental is unsupported. A more convenient input field does not override that limitation.

Two equipment changes to know

The Repair Tool now unlocks after two fragment scans. If an older checklist tells you to keep searching after the second scan, check its publication date against this update.

Acid sources appear as green dots on the Scanner HUD. Follow those markers when looking for the resource.

Use the right guide for the problem

For a missing world after changing versions, use the branch guide. For inviting friends into a solo world, use save conversion. Keeping these workflows distinct saves a lot of unnecessary restarting.
