The quick answer
Yes. A Shared save lets another player in your group host the same farm while the original host is offline. A normal local save does not automatically become a Shared save.

Shared saves and ordinary saves are different
Lightyear Frontier supports up to four players. The important distinction for a group is where the world lives: an ordinary hosted session depends on the person who owns that save, while a Shared save gives other members access to the world.
FRAME BREAK introduced Shared saves in the Greater Cause update. Progress is synchronized through the cloud, and another member can host when the person who originally created the farm is away.
Set up a world your group can return to
- Decide which farm should be the group’s main world. Avoid creating several similarly named copies without agreeing which one to use.
- Open Multiplayer → Host Multiplayer, select the existing world and use Create Shared Copy. The developer documents F on keyboard or Y on controller as the default shortcut.
- Invite your friends to the Shared save and have them check that it appears in their saved-game list.
- Before a long session, have a second member confirm they can open the Shared world. This distinguishes a shared copy from a normal invite to a local session.
The menu action and default shortcuts come from FRAME BREAK’s save-migration instructions. If you have rebound controls, follow the prompt shown in your own menu.
What happens to progress?
Treat the Shared save as one continuing farm, not as a separate campaign for every person. Agree with your group before major building changes or spending shared resources. Cloud synchronization makes an off-schedule session possible; it does not replace communication about what each player is changing.
Keep a clearly named backup before converting or experimenting with saves. This is a practical precaution, rather than a claim that the Shared save system has a particular unresolved bug.
If the world does not appear
First check that everyone is looking for the Shared copy, has the same game update installed, and is online. A world on a beta branch and a world on the public branch should not be treated as interchangeable.
The 1.0 patch notes include a fix for Shared save sessions incorrectly appearing offline. If advice you find online predates 1.0, check its date before following it. Report persistent problems with the version number, platform and whether you are opening a normal or Shared save.
Does this also transfer Xbox progress to Steam?
The developer has published a method using Shared copies, but it requires both versions and transfers world progress rather than your personal inventory and all character progress. Follow our Xbox-to-Steam save guide for the sequence and limitations.
