Move a Lightyear Frontier save from Xbox to Steam

Follow FRAME BREAK's Shared Copy method for bringing a Lightyear Frontier save from Xbox to Steam, with the correct menu sequence.

Coverage: 1.0; official migration method

The quick answer

You need access to both versions. Host a Shared copy on Xbox/Microsoft Store, then join it from Steam using the invite code. World progress carries over; personal inventory and character-specific progress do not.

Use the game’s documented method

The developer provides a Shared-save route for moving progress from Xbox to Steam. This is different from manually copying platform-specific files, and it avoids relying on unofficial save-conversion tools.

Start from the official instructions linked at the bottom of this page. Keep them open while you work, especially if your platform menus or account setup differ from the example.

Before you begin

You must own the game on both Xbox/Microsoft Store and Steam for the developer’s method. Confirm that you can open both installations and identify the correct source world by its name and progress.

Do not delete the source world just to reduce clutter. A successful-looking menu action is less useful than actually opening the destination world and recognizing your farm.

Create the Shared copy

  1. In the Xbox/Microsoft Store version, open Multiplayer → Host Multiplayer and choose the source world.
  2. Use Create Shared Copy — default F on keyboard or Y on controller — then find the copy under Shared.
  3. Host that copy and read its invite code from the pause menu.
  4. Open the Steam version and join using that code. Joining grants access to the Shared save when the original host is offline.
  5. Optionally, create a Standard copy on the destination side.

What transfers—and what does not

The world continues: its day count, deliveries, stored items and structures remain. You arrive as a new player, however. Personal inventory, Mech Parts, Mods, loadouts and some character-specific mission progress do not transfer. The developer suggests recycling personal equipment and moving the resulting resources and inventory into world storage before switching.

Verify before you clean up

On the destination installation, open the world and recognize your farm layout, stored materials and world progression. Do not use an empty personal inventory as evidence that the whole world failed to transfer; that is an expected limitation of this method.

If you keep both the original and the Shared copy, give them distinct names. Otherwise, it is easy to return to the wrong version later and mistake diverging progress for a lost save.

If the world does not appear, return to the original installation and check that you created a Shared copy rather than only inviting someone to a normal session. Record your game version and platform when reporting a persistent problem.

Shared access is not a general cross-save guarantee

This article describes the specific method FRAME BREAK documents. It should not be read as a promise that every future platform or every file format will be interchangeable.

If the goal is simply to let your friends host while you are away, the Shared saves and co-op guide covers that use case.
