The quick answer
Open the Map and use the Resource Scanner to find resource directions, then mark repeat collection routes. Sandswept Highlands and Hollow Marsh are open from the start but contain late-game content; Lola can retrieve lost trailers and item caches for a fee.

Turn a missing ingredient into a collection route
Start from the recipe or mission that needs the resource. Identify its exact name and quantity, then open the Map’s Resource Scanner. The scanner helps point you toward resources; it is more useful than repeatedly sweeping a region without a target.
At the location, place a named Stamp so you can recognize the purpose of the return trip. Distinguish a crop patch, mineral source, animal nest and a route waypoint in the name rather than leaving several identical markers. Trailers and Farm Animals also appear on the map in 1.0.
Before harvesting a large load, consider the whole journey: collecting it, carrying it and delivering it to the machine that uses it. A distant resource is not meaningfully supplied until it can enter your production chain.
Check the scale of storage before a long trip
The 1.0 inventory rework increases inventory and storage capacities tenfold, but most item weights were scaled similarly. Crops keep their earlier weight and therefore effectively occupy one-tenth of their previous share of storage capacity. This is a relative crop-storage improvement, not a tenfold carrying bonus for every material.
Check your current load and the resource’s actual weight before deciding how much to collect. It is particularly easy to overestimate space when switching from a crop run to a mineral run.
For harvesting, the Spike Saw’s Weak Points give a 25% damage bonus. The tool upgrade table explains which secondary abilities help with repeated gathering tasks.
New regions: access versus readiness
| Region | What the official area preview identifies | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Sandswept Highlands | Desert mesas, ruins, new crops and minerals, late-game resources and tougher Floaters | Prepare equipment, carrying room and a return route before a large collection trip |
| Hollow Marsh | A swamp among the Highlands’ clifftops, blue grass, red water and the Starfall Tree | Look for the route through the Highlands rather than expecting a separate early-game starting area |
Both regions are unlocked from the beginning of a 1.0 world. The developer nevertheless classifies them as late-game areas, and the Highlands are part of the final colony journey. You can explore early, but do not confuse an open route with a guarantee that your current loadout can handle every obstacle there.
Take only the equipment and free capacity needed for a defined trip. Mark the way back before expanding the search. For a resource you need regularly, prioritize a practical route over a one-off full inventory.
Hauling without losing track of the trailer
Trailers are more stable in 1.0, the towing speed penalty is reduced, and a HUD element shows a simplified top-down view of connected trailers. Use that overview to notice when the train is no longer behaving as intended. Map markers provide another way to locate a trailer after leaving it behind.
Match the transport method to the route’s turning room and terrain. A large load on an awkward route can cost more time to recover than two manageable trips. This is a routing trade-off, not a fixed maximum load recommendation.
If a trailer or item cache ends up somewhere inaccessible, Lola offers a paid retrieval service. Check her service before trying repeated risky recoveries. That service is for trailers and item caches; a lost farm animal instead returns to Diane’s sanctuary after a day.
Weather, tornadoes and opportunistic finds
Weather now changes during the day, and the Weather Forecaster reports changes in hours. Review the forecast before committing to an exposed trip instead of assuming the whole day will keep the same conditions.
Tornadoes no longer actively chase players. They move along their own path and should be avoided, even though their knockback and damage were reduced. A cleared route is still preferable to towing through the storm’s path.
Care Packages can land around the world and improve with colony progress. Loot Gobs contain natural resources but flee from you. These are useful opportunities during exploration; do not make a specific recipe depend on a guaranteed spawn of either event.
For an expedition tied to progression, return to the delivery planner afterward and feed the collected material into the request you originally selected.
