Stardew Valley Ginger Island guide: repair the boat and plan your first visits

Collect Willy’s boat repair materials, understand the overnight unlock, and plan early Golden Walnut exploration without confusing found and unspent totals.

Coverage: 1.6 · unmodded · standard bundles

The quick answer

Complete the Community Center or Joja route, read Willy’s invitation, then supply 200 Hardwood, 5 Iridium Bars and 5 Battery Packs. After the repair cutscene, a boat ticket costs 1,000g.

Finish the mainland unlock before stockpiling tickets

Willy’s boat is not available just because summer has arrived or you have seen his early shop conversation. Complete the Community Center bundles, or view the Joja Warehouse completion scene, then watch for his mailed invitation to the back room of the Fish Shop.

Enter the back room and inspect the repair points. The materials go to three different parts of the boat; carrying a complete shopping list is not the same as submitting every repair. Check each interaction before going home.

Boat repair shopping list

Repair Required materials What to check
Hull 200 Hardwood Ordinary Wood does not substitute
Anchor 5 Iridium Bars Ore is not a finished bar
Ticket stand 5 Battery Packs Reserve them before spending the same supply on equipment

After all three repairs are supplied, Willy and Robin restore the boat in an overnight scene. Another scheduled overnight scene can delay it by a day. If the supplies are accepted but tickets are not yet available, distinguish that cutscene delay from a missing repair.

Tickets become available the day after the repair scene. The Fish Shop door opens at 8am for this access, and the fare is 1,000g. Willy does not need to be standing behind the counter when you purchase a ticket; his own routine is not the same as boat availability.

Pack for the trip you intend to make

For an exploration visit, take the tools needed to interact with the island, food and free inventory space. If you plan to enter the volcano, keep the Watering Can as well as combat and mining equipment: it is useful for its lava traversal mechanics. A stripped-down mainland mining inventory is not automatically the correct island kit.

Avoid making the first visit a single overloaded expedition. You can spend one trip opening routes and learning the map, then return with a focused objective. The 1,000g fare makes planning worthwhile, but it does not make an unsafe late-day dungeon push a good bargain.

Before departing, finish the mainland chores that cannot wait. Ordinary crop and animal needs do not disappear because the island offers a new project. Sprinklers and reliable feeding arrangements make repeated visits easier to fit into the farm’s routine.

Learn the island’s geography first

The arrival area is Island South. The eastern jungle leads toward Leo and the parrot in his hut, which offers hints about remaining Golden Walnuts. Use those hints to choose an area rather than randomly repeating every activity.

Opening access and completing island projects consumes walnuts, so keep your next unlock in mind when deciding where to explore. A route that opens useful space can be worth more than spending early currency on a convenience you do not yet need.

The island’s weather is separate from the valley’s weather. After your first visit, the television provides its forecast. A rainy mainland morning does not establish the conditions for an island weather-dependent puzzle.

Golden Walnuts: found total and current balance differ

There are 130 Golden Walnuts in total. They come from exploration, puzzles, fishing, farming, combat and other island activities. These sources do not all behave like an unlimited repeatable drop; repeatedly doing one activity is not a way to collect every walnut.

Qi’s Walnut Room unlocks after you have found 100. Spending walnuts on island projects does not mean you must keep 100 unspent for that milestone. Track total discovery separately from the number currently available to spend.

In multiplayer, walnuts are shared. Agree on the next island purchase before one player spends the balance another player was saving for a route unlock. The shared currency also makes it useful to split exploration tasks without duplicating the same already-cleared puzzle.

Solve the Gem Bird puzzle from your own observations

On rainy island days, a Gem Bird appears in one island region. Approaching it makes it fly away and drop a gem. Record the region where that bird appeared and place the corresponding gem on that region’s pedestal at the eastern shrine.

The four regions are north, south, east and west. Possible gems include Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Ruby and Topaz. Your save’s assignment matters: copying another farm’s fixed gem-to-region arrangement can fail even when the gem names look correct. Completing the four correct placements gives five walnuts.

Choose the next visit before taking the boat home

Leave with one clear follow-up: another hinted walnut area, a dungeon supply run or an island project you can now fund. Note what tool, item or weather condition that task requires so the next fare buys useful progress.

If boat access is still missing, return to the mainland completion checklist. If daily chores make every trip impractical, finish a dependable watering setup before expanding the island workload.
