The quick answer
Keep the field small enough to water, save one of each Spring Crops Bundle vegetable, and use rain days for fishing or mining. Get Green Beans planted early; save festival money only after protecting your basic farm budget.

Choose two goals before spending your first gold
A useful first spring has two parallel projects: keep a repeatable income source growing, and preserve the seasonal items that unlock the rest of the valley. You do not need to finish every system in the first month. You do need enough time and energy to maintain what you buy.
On a normal crop-focused start, clear only the area you will plant, hoe it and water the seeds. Most farm starts supply 15 Parsnip Seeds; Meadowlands has a different starter package, so do not build a Meadowlands shopping plan around free Parsnips. Put a chest beside the house and separate future bundle items from goods intended for sale.
The strongest reason to limit the first field is time. A crop that looks profitable in a table still needs watering while you walk to town, fish or descend the Mines. Add acreage when you can maintain it without abandoning the next unlock. Use the crop calculator to compare a manageable number of tiles rather than assuming an enormous starting field.
A flexible route through the month
| Period | Farm task | Out-of-farm task | Keep in storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening days | Establish a small watered field and leave walkways | Learn the shops and fishing controls | One of each seasonal forage item |
| From Spring 5 | Reinvest without spending your whole reserve | Open the Mines; trigger the Community Center on an eligible day | Parsnip, Green Bean, Cauliflower and Potato |
| Before Spring 13 | Decide how much festival seed money you can spare | Make progress toward another mine elevator checkpoint | Existing bundle items, not just valuable produce |
| Spring 13 | Buy Strawberry Seeds if they fit your budget | Visit the Egg Festival | Enough time to plant and water after returning |
| Second half | Check every new crop against its harvest date | Use suitable rainy windows for bundle fish | Gold-quality Parsnips for the Quality Crops option |
| Final days | Stop buying crops that cannot mature | Prepare Summer seed money and useful materials | Any missing Spring bundle item |
This is an adaptable route rather than a day-by-day speedrun. If fishing is uncomfortable, practice on easy catches before depending on a difficult rainy-day fish for income. If combat is the obstacle, bank ore and upgrade equipment before pushing another section of the Mines.
Protect the four spring crop donations
The standard Spring Crops Bundle takes one Parsnip, Green Bean, Cauliflower and Potato. You are saving an item of each, not filling four slots with one profitable crop. Keep the donations separate as soon as they are harvested.
Green Beans take 10 growth days and then regrow every 3 days. Their trellises block movement: place them along accessible edges or in rows you can reach. Cauliflower takes 12 days. Waiting until late spring to remember either crop can make the bundle depend on a shop or a later year instead of your own field.
At normal growth speed, a Cauliflower planted on Spring 16 can be harvested on Spring 28. Planting it on Spring 17 is too late for an outdoor spring harvest. This boundary assumes daily watering, no growth bonuses and a harvest before the season changes. See the seasonal Community Center plan before selling your last copy of something.
Decide whether festival strawberries fit the farm
Strawberry Seeds cost 100g at the Egg Festival. A plant takes 8 days to its first harvest, then regrows every 4 days. If planted and watered on Spring 13 at normal speed, its harvests are Spring 21 and 25. One normal-quality berry per harvest gives 240g gross and 140g after the seed cost; random extra berries and bonuses are excluded.
That does not make every spare coin an automatic Strawberry purchase. Seeds you cannot water do not keep the calendar assumed by that calculation. Keep enough flexibility for summer, equipment and any seasonal bundle crop you still lack. Stored Strawberry Seeds can be planted earlier in a later spring, which is a different comparison from first-year festival access.
Give rain days a specific job
Rain removes ordinary outdoor watering work for that day. Pick a destination before leaving: a five-floor mine push, a targeted fish window or a tool-upgrade errand. Do not spend a rare rainy afternoon moving between every activity without completing one.
The Mines open on Spring 5 of Year 1. Elevator progress is saved every five floors, so a small completed push has lasting value. For fishing, Catfish and Eel have different time windows even though both can be caught in spring rain. The fish-window guide shows how to split the day.
If upgrading the Watering Can, water first and check the next day’s weather before handing it over. The usual rain-day arrangement is watering today, rain tomorrow and collection the following day. If the forecast or pickup plan does not work, wait; missing water delays the harvest you budgeted around.
Finish spring with a workable summer setup
Before sleeping on Spring 28, check three things: which spring donations are safely stored, how much gold remains for summer seeds, and how many tiles you can realistically water on Summer 1. Out-of-season outdoor crops generally wither when the season changes; a field of unfinished spring crops is not a summer income plan.
Next, work toward Quality Sprinklers and tool upgrades. Reclaiming time from watering makes the farm easier to expand while you continue fishing, mining and meeting villagers.
