The quick answer
The Greenhouse has 12 columns and 10 rows of crop soil. Six Iridium Sprinklers can water it while occupying only four soil tiles, leaving 116 for crops. Keep growing fruit trees clear of placed objects, including border sprinklers.

Unlock it, then plan the permanent layout
Repair the Greenhouse by completing the Community Center’s Pantry, or buy the 35,000g Greenhouse project through Joja’s development route. Its indoor crop bed is 12 columns wide and 10 rows deep. Plants ignore their usual outdoor seasons here, but still need water; rain outside does not water the interior.
Make the watering plan before filling the bed with long-lived crops. You can use the wooden border for some sprinklers, saving soil for plants. Scarecrows are not needed indoors. The standard bundle checklist covers the Pantry requirements if the building is still ruined.
Exact positions for six Iridium Sprinklers
Face the crop bed from the entrance. Number the soil columns 1–12 from left to right, and the soil rows 1–10 from top to bottom. In this coordinate system, column 13 is the wooden border immediately to the right of the soil. Count from the soil edge, not the greenhouse wall or doorway.
| Sprinkler | Column | Row | Placement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upper left | 3 | 3 | Soil |
| Upper middle | 8 | 3 | Soil |
| Upper right | 13 | 3 | Right wooden border |
| Lower left | 3 | 8 | Soil |
| Lower middle | 8 | 8 | Soil |
| Lower right | 13 | 8 | Right wooden border |
Each unmodified Iridium Sprinkler reaches two tiles in every direction. The first column of sprinklers covers soil columns 1–5, the second covers 6–10, and the border pair reaches columns 11–12. The upper row covers soil rows 1–5; the lower row covers 6–10. Four sprinklers occupy soil, so 120 − 4 = 116 crop spaces remain. These coordinates are GGFeed’s calculation from the bed dimensions and sprinkler reach.
Hoe and plant the remaining soil, and water newly prepared planting on the setup day. Sprinklers water each morning; placing one after that morning’s watering does not immediately irrigate the new field. Inspect the next morning for dry tiles before committing rare seeds everywhere.
If you plan fruit trees alongside the right border, establish those trees before placing the two nearby border sprinklers, or keep the sprinklers outside the saplings’ surrounding growth area until maturity. Water the affected strip manually during that interval.
Compare watering options without rebuilding blindly
| Method | Crop spaces left in the documented layout | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| 16 Quality Sprinklers | 108 | Uses a more accessible tier, but occupies more soil |
| 6 Iridium Sprinklers | 116 | Four soil positions plus two border positions |
| Deluxe Retaining Soil on the whole bed | Up to 120 | Requires the fertilizer supply and one initial watering |
At Farming level 9, an Iridium Sprinkler costs one each of Gold Bar, Iridium Bar and Battery Pack. Krobus sells one for 10,000g on Fridays, offering a gradual purchase route when crafting materials are scarce. Do not wait to use the Greenhouse simply because all six are not ready; start with a manageable watered section.
Deluxe Retaining Soil keeps water with 100% reliability once watered. Its recipe costs 50 Cinder Shards at the Island Trader; each craft uses 5 Stone, 3 Fiber and 1 Clay. For a regrowing indoor crop the retention continues across harvests until the tile is un-tilled. It does not create water on an initially dry tile, and ordinary Retaining Soil is not equivalent.
Choose between Ancient Fruit and Starfruit
| Crop | First growth at normal speed | After harvest | Base raw sale value | Seed consideration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Fruit | 28 days | Regrows every 7 days | 550g | Establish and multiply a scarce initial seed supply |
| Starfruit | 13 days | Replant | 750g | Oasis seeds cost 400g each |
Ancient Fruit suits a lasting weekly routine once established. Donate the Ancient Seed artifact to the Museum, claim the plantable Ancient Seeds reward and recipe, and use later fruit in a Seed Maker to expand. The artifact itself is not the seed packet you plant. A Seed Maker takes 20 in-game minutes and normally produces 1–3 matching seeds, with alternate outcomes possible, so one fruit is not a guaranteed two seeds.
Starfruit offers a larger sale per fruit but needs replacement seed every harvest. At base raw prices, one 750g fruit minus a 400g purchased seed leaves 350g per tile per completed crop, before other costs. Ancient Fruit’s repeated harvest does not repay a new purchased seed each week. Comparing only 750g against 550g misses this distinction.
For wine, base unaged values are 1,650g for Ancient Fruit Wine and 2,250g for Starfruit Wine. With Artisan they become 2,310g and 3,150g. Those are sale values, not daily net profit: seed replacement, startup growth and Keg availability still matter. Use the processing guide and the Oak Resin supply plan before expanding the winery.
Grow fruit trees without sacrificing crop soil
Fruit trees can grow around the outer edge of the Greenhouse, outside the crop bed. The documented maximum arrangement fits 18 trees. A sapling needs its surrounding 3×3 area free of player-placed objects while growing, and neighboring fruit trees need two intervening tiles. The building walls and wooden border themselves do not block growth, but a sprinkler or floor tile you place next to a sapling can.
Normal-quality saplings take 28 days to mature; higher-quality saplings recovered from established trees grow faster. They do not need watering, and Tree Fertilizer does not speed them up. Mature indoor fruit trees produce throughout the year. After maturity, nearby flooring and objects no longer block growth; harvest regularly because a tree holds at most three fruit.
When a morning message says a tree failed to grow, inspect its surrounding tiles before buying another sapling. Remove a nearby sprinkler, path or other placed object and keep the area clear. Moving objects only after repeated blocked nights cannot recover the growth days already missed.
